NanYang, I have literally lost count of the number of times we have dined here!

NanYang Cafe is located in the Renaissance Arcade in Rundle Mall. Quite popular with university students and office workers, you have to reach this place before 12.00pm to beat the lunch hour rush. It gets that crowded! And if you think you can beat the rush by coming in late at 1.00pm, you will still be met with an even longer queue.

Coming back to work lunches, I consider myself extremely fortunate to be part of this girl gang at work. We have known each other since the time I joined this company, but we really got close during covid. I get introduced to new places and new cuisines by this friend group almost every other week. Some call us the Three Amigos, some call us The Shorties, but the fact is going to work is fun because of these friends. They have seen my highs and lows, especially with mom being sick and all. They get to see firsthand the emotional toll it takes on me. Most of the time, I am a nervous wreck by lunch time (India being 4 hours behind means I get updates on mom during lunch time). And all it takes for them is to take one look at me and say, “That’s it. We are going walkies!” At times, when I am walking with this lively bunch, I find myself thinking “You can really tell who the strong women are. They are the ones you often see lifting each other up”.

So, NanYang Cafe is a favourite spot for most of us at work. There are even days when we just know it’s a NanYang kind of day! The food here is comfort food at its best. I would rate their Char Kway Teow and Hokkien Mee top notch, especially the Char Kway Teow with its small fried bits of pork. Delicious!

So if you are in town and looking for some traditional Malay cuisine at reasonable prices, NanYang is definitely the place to visit.

Funn fact, out of the three pictures I have decided to post, the ones with the really bad lighting are mine and the third one was taken by my friends when I was wfh, just so they could vex me with what I was missing on that day! The joys of true friendship!
